apX IMS Server

The architecture of apX IMS Server is centered around the apXchange-MVS interface, which acts as the primary point of interaction between applications and the IMS environment. This interface translates application requests into DL/I calls, facilitating data access and manipulation. The DL/I call handler processes these calls, ensuring they are correctly formatted and executed within the IMS system.

The IMS database connector then handles the actual communication with the IMS databases, retrieving and updating data as requested. The system leverages the z/OS operating system for core functionality, including security, resource management, and networking. Communication between components is managed through z/OS system services and the IMS control blocks.

Data storage relies on the IMS database structures, which can include hierarchical databases (HDAM, HIDAM, HISAM) and other IMS data storage methods. Network requirements include connectivity to the z/OS system and the IMS environment, typically using TCP/IP or other z/OS networking protocols.
