ZELA's architecture comprises several key components: the ZELA Control Program, which manages overall system operations; the Dataset Stacking Module, responsible for optimizing tape usage; the Migration Manager, handling dataset migration and replication; and the Security Subsystem, ensuring data protection. These components communicate internally through z/OS system services and shared memory. The system uses configuration files for defining operational parameters, security settings, and dataset migration policies.
ZELA integrates with RACF for authentication and access control, using dataset-level permissions. Encryption of tape datasets is supported using z/OS encryption facilities. The system does not require any specific network ports for internal communication.
