Product Overview

The architecture of VS Pascal on z/OS and z/VM comprises several key components that work together to enable Pascal program execution. The central component is the compiler, which translates Pascal source code into object code. The compiler processes the source code, performs syntax and semantic analysis, and generates machine code specific to the z/Architecture.

The runtime library provides essential support functions for Pascal programs. These functions include input/output operations, string manipulation, memory management, and exception handling. The linkage editor combines the object code generated by the compiler with the runtime library and any other required object modules to create an executable program.

The compilation process typically involves several steps. First, the Pascal source code is submitted to the compiler using JCL. The compiler then generates an object file.

The object file is then linked with the runtime library and other necessary libraries using the linkage editor. The resulting executable program can then be run on the z/OS or z/VM system. VS Pascal integrates with the z/OS and z/VM operating systems through standard interfaces.

For example, Pascal programs can access data stored in VSAM files or interact with CICS transactions. The operating system provides services for memory allocation, file I/O, and system calls. The security features are provided by the z/OS and z/VM operating systems, including access control, authentication, and encryption.

VS Pascal leverages these features to ensure the security of the applications.
