The architecture of Tivoli Automated Tape Allocation Manager (ATAM) is centered around the efficient sharing of tape resources within a z/OS environment. The core components include the ATAM address space, which is the main control point for ATAM operations. The allocation manager handles requests for tape drive allocation, ensuring that drives are assigned efficiently and according to defined policies.

The device manager is responsible for interacting with the physical tape drives and managing their status.
