The Information Facility (TIF) architecture comprised several key components. The Screen Definition Facility allowed users to design and define application screens. The Data Definition Facility was used to define the data structures and database interactions.
The Code Generator translated the screen and data definitions into COBOL or PL/I code, which interacted with DB2 databases. Communication between components was primarily internal within the z/VM and VSE environments. TIF used DB2 for data storage, with no external database connectivity options.
The system did not expose any APIs. The generated applications used internal IBM protocols for communication. The system's configuration was managed through JCL and control statements specific to the z/VM and VSE environments.
The administrative interface was primarily through the z/VM and VSE consoles. TIF is not supported. Consider alternatives like IBM Rational Application Developer or other modern development platforms.
