Product Overview

The architecture of Lotus Domino on z/OS was centered around the Domino Server, which managed email routing, database management, and application execution. The Domino Directory served as the central repository for user accounts, groups, and server configurations. The Notes client provided the user interface for accessing email, calendars, and applications.

Communication between components occurred via protocols such as SMTP, IMAP, and HTTP. nsf files) for storing data. APIs were available for integration with other systems, allowing developers to extend the platform's functionality.

Security was managed through access control lists (ACLs), which controlled user access to databases and applications. Compared to Microsoft Exchange, Domino offered a unique application development environment. However, the z/OS version is unsupported; organizations should migrate to a supported platform.
