Product Overview

The architecture of Infosphere Change Data Capture (CDC) comprised several key components. The CDC Replication Engine was the core, responsible for managing the data replication process. It monitored the transaction logs of the source database, captured the changes, and applied them to the target database.

The CDC Access Server provided connectivity to both source and target databases, supporting various database types. The CDC Management Console provided a GUI for configuration, monitoring, and administration. Communication between components primarily used TCP/IP.

The product used a log-based approach, reading transaction logs from source databases to capture changes. It supported various database storage mechanisms depending on the source and target databases. Security was managed through the operating system's authentication and role-based access control (RBAC).

Encryption was used to protect data in transit. The CLI provided scripting capabilities for automation. Since the product is no longer supported, organizations should migrate to a supported data replication solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was Infosphere Change Data Capture?

Infosphere Change Data Capture (CDC) was a log-based change data capture tool designed to replicate data changes from DB2 databases to other databases and data sources. It detected changes by monitoring database transaction logs. The product is no longer supported.

What is the history of Infosphere Change Data Capture?

Infosphere CDC was initially developed by DataMirror as DataMirror Transformation Server. IBM acquired DataMirror and renamed the product to Infosphere Change Data Capture in 2008. IBM support ended in 2017.

What databases and data sources did Infosphere CDC support?

Infosphere CDC was designed to synchronize DB2 databases with other databases and data sources, including DB2 on UNIX, Windows, and System i, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase. It used log-based change data capture to detect database changes.

What was the primary function of Infosphere CDC?

The product's primary function was to capture and replicate data changes in near real-time. This allowed for data synchronization, integration, and the ability to maintain data consistency across different platforms and databases.
