Product Overview
The architecture of IDMS Journal Reporter is centered around three main components: the Journal Reader, the Report Generator, and the Configuration Manager. The Journal Reader is responsible for extracting data from CA IDMS journals, which are typically stored as sequential files or VSAM datasets. The Report Generator takes the extracted data and formats it into reports based on user-defined criteria.
The Configuration Manager handles the setup and customization of the reporting process, including defining report formats, data selection criteria, and output destinations. Communication between components is primarily through data files. The Journal Reader writes extracted data to intermediate files, which the Report Generator then reads.
Configuration is managed through JCL and parameter files. Security is managed through z/OS security, with RACF or similar systems. The product's ability to extract and report on CA IDMS journal data provides a specialized solution for mainframe environments.
