M's architecture centers around its Database Engine, M Compiler, Run-Time System, and Journaling System. The Database Engine manages data storage and retrieval using a hierarchical data model. The M Compiler translates M language code into executable instructions.
The Run-Time System executes the compiled code, and the Journaling System ensures data integrity through transaction logging. Communication between components is primarily through internal system calls. M uses a hierarchical database structure, which differs from the relational model.
There are no REST or SOAP APIs. The CLI is the primary administrative interface. User management relies on the operating system's authentication and access control mechanisms.
Monitoring is achieved through system logs and performance metrics. M's design prioritizes performance and is well-suited for high-volume transaction processing.
