FATAR

FATAR's architecture is straightforward, designed for tape data mapping within the z/OS environment. The main components include the command interpreter, which processes user input; the data access module, which reads and interprets data from tape; and the reporting module, which formats and presents the output. These components communicate internally within the z/OS system, utilizing standard z/OS APIs for data access and system services.

FATAR does not use external databases; it directly accesses tape volumes. There are no specific network ports or protocols used by FATAR itself, as it operates within the z/OS environment. The primary interface is the z/OS console or batch job submission.

Security is managed through the z/OS security system, such as RACF or ACF2, which handles authentication and access control. Audit trails are maintained through z/OS system logs. For migration, consider solutions like IBM DFSMSrmm or CA 1 Tape Management, which offer advanced features and better integration.
