The Db2 Cloning Tool's architecture is designed for efficient database replication on z/OS. The core components include the Cloning Agent, Configuration Manager, and Data Mover. The Cloning Agent orchestrates the cloning process, interacting with the Db2 instances.
The Configuration Manager handles the settings, including source and target database details, data transfer parameters, and security configurations. The Data Mover is responsible for transferring the data between the source and target databases. Communication between these components occurs over TCP/IP.
The tool uses configuration files to store settings. The CLI is the primary interface for managing the tool. Security is handled through Db2's built-in features, including user authentication and RBAC.
The tool does not expose a REST API. The tool's design prioritizes automation and efficiency, reducing manual intervention and minimizing downtime. The tool supports the `CLONE DATABASE`, `CREATE TARGET`, and `START CLONING` commands.
