Product Overview

The architecture of CDB/Clone is centered around several key components that work together to facilitate high-speed DB2 cloning. The command processor is responsible for parsing user commands and initiating the cloning process. The object selection engine determines which DB2 objects will be cloned based on user-defined criteria specified in configuration files.

The data transfer engine handles the actual transfer of data from the source to the target DB2 environment, optimizing for speed and efficiency. The metadata management module manages the metadata associated with the cloned objects, ensuring consistency and integrity. Communication between these components is primarily internal, using optimized data structures and inter-process communication mechanisms.

CDB/Clone does not expose external APIs. The utility interacts with the DB2 system through native interfaces, leveraging DB2's internal APIs for data retrieval and object creation. Data is stored within the DB2 system itself, utilizing the existing storage mechanisms.

There are no specific port or network requirements beyond those required for DB2 connectivity. The command-line interface (CLI) is the primary administrative interface. Configuration parameters include connection details, object selection criteria, and cloning options.

Monitoring and logging capabilities are provided through integration with DB2's auditing and logging features. Security relies on DB2's authentication and access control, with all cloning operations logged for auditing purposes. The utility offers significant performance advantages over IBM's native DB2 utilities, making it a valuable tool for large-scale database cloning operations.
