Product Overview

APFCHECK's architecture is centered around a batch processing model within the z/OS environment. The primary components include the JCL execution environment, the APF library analysis module, the reporting engine, and the output dataset. The JCL (Job Control Language) serves as the primary interface for configuring and executing APFCHECK.

The JCL specifies the input datasets containing the APF library information and the output dataset where the report will be generated. The APF library analysis module is responsible for scanning the APF list and associated security profiles. This module retrieves information about each library, including its attributes and access controls.

The reporting engine processes the data gathered by the analysis module and formats it into a structured report. The report includes details on users authorized to update APF libraries, libraries in the APF list, libraries in WARNING mode, and the UACC settings. The output dataset stores the generated report, which can be viewed or further processed.

Communication between components is managed through the z/OS operating system. The JCL initiates the execution, and the analysis module interacts with system resources to gather data. The reporting engine then processes this data and writes the output to the specified dataset.

There are no external databases or storage mechanisms beyond the z/OS file system. There are no specific network ports or requirements, as APFCHECK operates within the z/OS environment. The security model relies on the z/OS security infrastructure, such as RACF, for access control.

The JCL and datasets are protected by user profiles and permissions defined within the security manager.
